Eligibility
Who the clinic can take
Three things have to be true. If one is not, we say so on the call and point you to someone else.
You live or file in Camden County
The clinic works in the courts that serve this county. If your case is somewhere else, we will say so and suggest who to ask.
It is a family case
Custody, parenting time, child support, divorce, or a protective order you are asking for or answering.
Your income fits our bands
Household income and the number of people in your household set your fee. We ask for a recent pay stub or benefits letter.
Fees
Four fee bands, set by household income
Each band has its own hourly rate for attorney time. Your band, and an estimate for each step, are in writing before we start.
- Lowest rate
Band A
Households with the lowest incomes. We also help with the court’s fee-waiver form.
- Low rate
Band B
Households working, with little left after rent and child care.
- Mid rate
Band C
Households above legal aid limits who could not hire a private lawyer.
- Top rate
Band D
The top of our scale, for households just under the line.
Fees are for attorney time. Court filing fees, service and copies are extra, and a fee waiver may cover them. Above Band D, we refer you to private lawyers.
